Stereophile's GHT,
January 2002:
High-end means high-priced." While
audio publications continue to decry that
mantra, it persists. The Outlaw receiver is an effective
antidote. Its features
include six 70W channels of amplification and a
6.1-channel playback mode
for suitable program material, together with a set
of 5.1-channel direct
analog inputs for DVD-Audio or SACD
playback.
Reviewed by Thomas J. Norton in
conjunction with six budget loudspeakers,
the 1050 also made its case with speaker systems
costing as much as $10,000.
While we don't recommend such an uneven
distribution of your
home-theater budget, the Outlaw wasn't in the least fazed
by such pairings. It is
distinguished by an easy, non-fatiguing sound, without a
hint of the edginess you might expect from
inexpensive solid-state
electronics. In short, it will give you a lot more than
you might expect for the
money.
